At the very moment in May that Iran-funded Palestinian terrorists in Gaza were firing hundreds of rockets on Israeli civilians, Israel-hater Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) hosted an Israel-bashing session in the U.S. Capitol bemoaning the “catastrophe” of the Jewish state’s founding.

Joining Tlaib to vilify and damn the Middle East’s sole democracy were numerous anti-Israel groups, some of which push BDS (the antisemitic boycott, divest, sanction Israel campaign), denounce the Jewish state as an “apartheid” nation, and even celebrate terror attacks that have killed innocent Jewish Israeli civilians.

Tlaib’s Nakba Day event (Nakba is Arabic for “catastrophe”) was originally scheduled for the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy caught wind of it and canceled it the day before, to his credit.

“It’s wrong for members of Congress to traffic in anti-Semitic tropes about Israel," McCarthy told FreeBeacon.com. “As long as I’m speaker, we are going to support Israel’s right to self-determination and self-defense, unequivocally and in a bipartisan fashion."

Ever defiant, Tlaib tweeted “Let the headlines read, ‘McCarthy tries to erase Palestine but fails,’” after her Israel-hating gripe session moved to a Senate hearing room made available by Sen. Bernie Sanders, the socialist from Vermont who, while Jewish, frequently scolds and reviles the Jewish state.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), also Jewish, is ostensibly pro-Israel but has in the past defended Tlaib and her fellow “Squad” member Ilhan Omar, said and did nothing to stop the slander and smearing of Israel in a Senate hearing room.

All this took place while terrorists in Gaza bombarded Israel with 1,469 rockets over five days, forcing Israelis to rush into safe rooms and huddle in bomb shelters. Israel’s Iron Dome batted most of the enemy projectiles out of the sky, but two people in Israel were killed by rocket fire. One terrifying picture showed a charred and twisted rocket buried in a brick-paved parking lot next to a car.

And on the very day Tlaib and allies were demonizing Israel, the IDF tweeted out a video showing an IDF pilot aborting a planned attack because children were in the vicinity. Terrorists in Gaza use civilians, even children, as human shields.
