Is America Closing its Golden Door?

America once gave Jews a golden door into a “second promised land.” No more.

Like no other nation on earth, America has been a safe haven and friend of the Jewish people . . . for centuries. But as our nation turns 250, antisemitism is soaring and some Jews are thinking about leaving.

Help us turn the tide with your direct financial support today. When you do, I’ll send printed copies of our best books FREE!

You and I can take GREAT satisfaction in knowing America is unique among the nations in our long history of love, affirmation, and respect for the Jewish people. And because America has blessed the children of Abraham, God has, in turn, placed his heavy hand of blessing on our land. Just as he promised in Genesis 12:3.

But as the United States marks her 250th birthday, a grim and dramatically different picture is emerging.

Muslims and Marxists—the notorious New York Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is both—are bringing down the curtain on America’s two-century-long love affair with the Jewish people...

Unless you and I act ... and fast!

It’s easy to find evidence for America’s long-standing love for the Jewish people...

  • John Adams wrote a Jewish friend in 1819, “For I really wish the Jews again in Judea an independent nation.”

  • Elias Boudinot, a Founding Father who served in the Continental Congress, wrote in 1816: “Who knows but God has raised up these United States in these latter days, for the very purpose of accomplishing his will in bringing his beloved people to their own land.

  • American fascination, love, and support for the Jewish people and Jewish return was so intense in the 19th century that historian Michael Oren termed it a “Palestine mania.”

  • The Jewish Telegraphic Agency credited America in 1935 for its “generous and unstinted support given to the cause of Zionism.”

As a result, Jewish immigrants entered the “golden door” that awaited them in New York Harbor, as Jewish poet Emma Lazarus termed it. Millions of Jewish immigrants transformed their adopted land on almost every front—business, culture, arts, and entertainment. And America became for many a “second promised land.”

No more. Today in New York City—the most Jewish city in America, with nearly two million Jews in the metropolitan area—the Islamic call to prayer shatters the sleep of many. Just as it does in Minneapolis, Paterson, New Jersey, and Hamtramck and Dearborn, Michigan.

A pro-Muslim, Hezbollah-flag-waving mob massed outside a New York synagogue and almost broke through a police barricade. Protesters shouted insults like “Death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces], “Rapists,” and “Settlers, settlers go back home, Palestine is ours alone.”

But, instead of condemning the surly mob, Mamdani upheld their right to protest (riot, really) and lent his support to their cause.

Political Islam and sharia are gaining footholds across the nation. And antisemitism is spiking. Nine out of 10 Jews feel less safe than a year ago. And some Jews are pondering a move. Thirteen percent of Jewish adults considered leaving the U.S. in the previous five years, according to a 2024 American Jewish Committee survey—DOUBLE the number the prior year.

The situation is grim and growing darker. But with your help, CIDI works online and in Washington to fight antisemitism and inspire fresh love for Israel.
