It was a miracle, witnessed by a watching world. Forty-nine years ago this month, the tiny nation of Israel defeated the armies of its Muslim Arab neighbors . . . and did so in just six days.
With its very existence in question, Israel seized the initiative on day one, eliminating 197 Egyptian aircraft. By day three, Israel took Jerusalem from Jordan and regained sovereignty in its beloved capital for the first time in some 2,000 years.
By war’s end on day six, Israel had taken possession of the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the Golan Heights.
As was the case at Israel’s modern rebirth in 1948, it was an outcome many would have thought impossible. Yet Israel has not only survived but triumphed against repeated existential threats and overwhelming opposition.
And that is dramatically true post-Oct. 7. Israel’s battle triumphs over its Iranian-armed neighbors in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria — as well as Iran itself — are but the latest instance of what we have witnessed since 1948: the hand of the Almighty on behalf of His people.
Time and again, Israel prevailed — often in ways that seemed nothing short of extraordinary.
