Today, I want to share the extraordinary story of Gavin, a Covenant Journey alumnus whose calling has taken him around the world to protect innocent lives and stand for freedom.
The year Gavin traveled to Israel with Covenant Journey, he also deployed as a U.S. Army officer on a dangerous intelligence mission in the Horn of Africa. “We were always on edge, tracking threats,” he recalls. “My best friends were on the wall, and I wanted to keep them safe.” Over nine months, Gavin helped prevent a Benghazi-like crisis, assisted in embassy evacuations, and trained local forces to maintain peace.

Yet this was only one part of Gavin's calling. He was also the youngest elected county commissioner in Florida and a history teacher shaping young minds. Through every assignment, he says his faith guided his leadership: “My Christianity affects everything. I try to model Christ’s servant leadership in all I do.”
Gavin credits his Covenant Journey experience with strengthening both his spiritual foundation and his commitment to Israel. Standing on Mt. Carmel and sailing the Sea of Galilee deepened his connection to Scripture, and the people of Israel became “like coming home,” he says. The trip prepared him for the challenges of deployment and continues to inspire him today — both spiritually and politically.
