Update From Inside Iran
Iranian death toll far worse than anyone thought
Deceased protester’s family risked life to share the truth
Last week, I wrote to you about Siavash Shirzad, a 38-year-old father, who went to his grave believing U.S. President Donald Trump would make good on his promise to send help.
Today I have more information on Siavash, thanks to family members who dared to travel to the Iran-Iraq border to evade the Iranian government’s cell and internet blackouts, all so they could tell YOU and the rest of the world what they have endured.
The Trump administration continues to engage with Ayatollah Khamenei and his forces to achieve a new nuclear deal. But NOTHING is being done to back up President Trump’s promises to help the Iranian protesters still being slaughtered in the streets.
If the administration won’t act, Congress MUST before even one more innocent Iranian life is lost. Fax Congress NOW and demand they VOTE YES on HR 2614 — the Maximum Support Act.
On January 2, 2026, President Donald Trump told the world if Iran “violently kills peaceful protestors, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue.”
Six days later, Siavash took Trump at his word and joined fellow protesters around a campfire. They had no weapons, and they were not engaged in any sort of destruction. They simply sang and danced to Kurdish folk songs of freedom. The ayatollah’s forces arrived and mowed them down with machine gun fire.
Sadly, Siavash’s murder was not the end of the family’s horror.
His family found his body among thousands at the Kahrizak forensic center. The dead protesters had been reduced to numbers. Siavash’s family was told to search for body bag #12,647 in a warehouse where bodies were stacked like cordwood. The family was forced to pay an exorbitant sum just to see the body inside that bag and make sure it was indeed Siavash.
Then the authorities refused to release his body for burial unless the family remained quiet. The authorities warned the family not to draw any attention to his death, “Otherwise, we will bury him ourselves, in a place where there are 12,000 mass graves,” reported Siavash’s cousin (who must remain anonymous for fear of retaliation). “Then he will disappear among the bodies, and you will never find him.”
Military vehicles followed the family all the way home shouting, “If even a single slogan is shouted, we will take the body back.”
Demand Congress ACT NOW! Demand they VOTE YES on HR 2614!
Siavash’s story is not isolated. It is one among tens of thousands. Medical professionals using satellite phones have reported that at least 16,500 have been murdered since the protests began. But as Siavash’s story shows, the numbers are vastly higher. His body bag number was 12,647, and a mass grave outside that holding facility held at least 12,000 more bodies, according to the Iranian security forces stationed there. And that was at just one location among the 31 provinces that have witnessed mass protests.
This is GENOCIDE, and America MUST NOT BE SILENT.
A new nuclear deal is an admirable endeavor, but such a negotiation MUST include the promises President Trump made to the freedom-seeking Iranian people — the very same promises Siavash and so many others believed when they took to the streets over the last six weeks.
The people of Iran need President Trump to make good on his promises. But so far, the Trump administration has failed to deliver on those promises or even mention them in the weeks that followed.
HR 2614, the Maximum Support Act, seeks to force the Trump Administration to do the right thing.
This critical legislation would increase pressure on the Iranian regime, strengthen support for the Iranian people, and ensure the United States stands firmly with those risking their lives for freedom. The courage of Iranian protesters demands more than symbolic statements — it demands decisive action.
By supporting HR 2614, Congress can help amplify the voices of the Iranian people and send a clear message that America stands with them in their struggle for liberty.
The Iranian people need YOU to stand for them NOW.
Please FAX CONGRESS NOW and demand they PASS the Maximum Support Act.
