Hamas to run Gaza?

Trump’s Board of Peace effectively puts Hamas in charge

For decades, Israel has witnessed initiative after initiative launched to stabilize, reconstruct, or govern Gaza. Many have been well-intentioned. Others have been hopelessly naive. All have failed miserably.

The newly established Gaza “Board of Peace,” forged under President Donald Trump’s Phase 2 ceasefire framework, unfortunately appears to fall into all three categories. Its structural flaws, political contradictions, and detachment from Gaza’s on-the-ground realities make clear to anyone with eyes to see, that this initiative, like all the others before it, is destined to fail.

Don’t let the Board of Peace END Israel! Demand Change!

President Trump has done a lot of great things for Israel, no question. But the Gaza Strip represents more than a simple real estate development deal where all parties win through prosperity. A centuries-old blood libel exists between Israel and her Arab neighbors that a few new hotels and resorts cannot possibly resolve — especially if Qatar and Turkey are allowed to lead the Board, as President Trump plans.

The stability and legitimacy of any new governing body for Gaza depend on the neutrality, credibility, and alignment of its members with the region’s security imperatives. For these reasons, Qatar and Turkey should have NO ROLE on the new Gaza governing board.

First, both Qatar and Turkey have a long history of open political alignment with Hamas, which presents a fundamental conflict of interest. Israeli officials have already raised concerns about the inclusion of Qatar and Turkey in advisory or executive roles, specifically because both governments have been “too critical of [Israel’s] military moves in Gaza and too sympathetic to Hamas.”

This sympathy is not symbolic — Qatar has hosted Hamas political leadership for years, and Turkey has repeatedly defended the organization on the international stage. Their involvement in Gaza’s governing framework would allow actors aligned with Hamas’ political agenda to influence policy, undermining efforts to neutralize militant infrastructure, and stabilize the region.
