Press Release: Congressional Resolution Supports Weekend of Prayer for Israel

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Leading members of the American Congress introduced a bipartisan House Resolution on Friday, calling on Congress to proclaim November 17, 2023, through November 19, 2023, a weekend of prayer for Israel.

The resolution, led by three of the four co-chairs of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, Reps. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Brad Schneider (D-IL), and Chris Smith (R-NJ), details the “unprovoked, premeditated and barbaric attack by the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas” where at least 1,400 people in Israel, including more than 30 Americans, have been slaughtered by Hamas terrorists.

The caucus is coordinated by the Israel Allies Foundation, which works to educate and empower pro-Israel, faith-based legislators worldwide who share a belief that the State of Israel has the right to exist in peace within secure borders. Also, American Christian Leaders for Israel is encouraging Christians and Jews to participate in a Weekend of Prayer “For Zion’s Sake.” The focus during church and synagogue services will be prayer for Israel and for the release of hostages held captive by Hamas.

Congressional Allies Caucus, Rep. Doug Lamborn stated, “As co-chair of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, I and other Members from both sides of the aisle are united in our call for Americans to pray for the people of Israel and the safe return of all the hostages. I want to thank every American this weekend that will be standing in prayer for Israel in synagogues, churches, and places of worship across the country.”

Rep. Brad Schneider, lead co-sponsor and co-chair of the CIAC, said, “I believe this is a critical time for people of faith to come together and pray for the State of Israel and the Jewish people. From Nov. 17-19, tens of thousands of Americans will be praying for Israel, and I am proud to co-sponsor this bipartisan resolution encouraging a weekend of prayer and reflection for our strongest ally. As we call for prayer, we are committed in Congress to act on Israel's behalf as well, providing her with the aid and diplomatic support she needs to win this war against the terrorist group Hamas so that Israelis and Palestinians have the chance to live together in peace, security, and prosperity.”

Chairman of Christian in Defense of Israel Mat Staver said, “I am encouraged by the strong support for Israel that the United States Congress has shown. It is critical they continue to act on Israel's behalf by providing her with the aid needed to win this war against terrorism. I encourage everyone to join in this critical effort, and remain steadfast in prayer for Israel, the Jewish people, and for the release of the hostages held captive by Hamas.”
