Jerusalem is no ordinary city. It’s the 3,000-year-old capital of Israel, the nation God calls His “treasured possession” (Deut. 7:6). It’s also the “city of God” (Ps. 87:3) and the place God chose for “His dwelling place” (Ps. 132:13).

But Joe Biden wants to divide the Holy City. He wants to endorse the Palestinian claim to Jerusalem as their capital—a claim that has no foundation in history, law or the Bible.

Biden’s opening shot to divide Jerusalem was to announce plans to reopen the U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in Jerusalem early in his administration. That “consulate,” which President Trump closed in 2019, had served since the mid-1990s as the de facto U.S. embassy to the Palestinians—an embassy in, of all places, Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.

Israel vehemently opposed the move—as do pro-Israel Americans—and Biden backed off … for a while.

But now Joe Biden and his team, populated with anti-Israel activists, is moving ahead with a series of moves to roll back President Trump’s U.S. recognition that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. And to divide Jerusalem by backing the Palestinian claim that Jerusalem is theirs, too. Or more to their liking, theirs alone.

Biden’s visit to Israel included a scheduled stop in eastern Jerusalem. His administration’s aid to Palestine has been about 500 million dollars a year after the Trump administration cut off that funding entirely.

Eastern Jerusalem is a largely Arab district that includes the Old City of Jerusalem, where King David ruled and Jesus walked. It includes the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. It is also where Palestinians want to establish the capital of their future state of “Palestine.”

Biden’s visit to eastern Jerusalem, where no U.S. president has gone, sent a powerful signal. A Palestinian official told The Jerusalem Post Biden's visit demonstrated his commitment to a “two-state solution.”

And it was also taken, Jerusalem Post reported, “as a revocation of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s 2017 recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
