Jerusalem matters to God. It is the place He has chosen for his habitation (Psalm 132:13-14). It is an ancient city at the heart of God’s plan for the Jewish people and the world.

It is also the heart and soul of the Jewish people. “Next year in Jerusalem” has been the heartfelt longing of Jews for some 2,000 years. Now back in their God-given land, the idea of dividing Jerusalem—handing a portion of the Holy City to mortal enemies—is utterly repugnant to the Jewish people.

That is why the Israeli government has vetoed the Biden administration’s plan to reopen a de facto American embassy to “Palestine” in Jerusalem—as the Jewish nation has the clear and uncontested right to do under international law.

But Team Biden has crafted a devious workaround to create an unofficial U.S. consulate to the Palestinians in Jerusalem—one housed for now in the U.S. embassy but which will report directly to Washington, not to the U.S. ambassador to Israel.

The purpose, as a former Trump administration official put it, “is to walk back the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, erode Israel’s sovereignty over its capital city, and signal support for dividing Jerusalem.”

Biden’s plan is outrageous and shameful. Thankfully, pro-Israel House and Senate members are on to Biden’s scheme ... and are calling him on it. You and I must do so, too!
