It’s disturbing and bizarre, but the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is widely celebrated in Congress. Sen. Dick Durbin recently praised CAIR’s Chicago branch, calling it the “leading Muslim community organization in this area.” Four other members of Congress joined him in in lionizing CAIR-Chicago.

And this is no isolated instance. In 2019, nearly one in five members of Congress publicly endorsed this pro-Palestinian group that is an open enemy of Israel and viciously antisemitic.

But the United Arab Emirates lists CAIR as a terrorist organization and the Simon Wiesenthal Center just placed CAIR on its roster of the top 10 antisemitic entities on the planet. Joining CAIR on this list are Iran and Hamas, which, like CAIR, are committed to Israel’s elimination. Sadly, CAIR’s antisemitism ranking is well-earned ...

• CAIR hosted a rally last September demanding the release of convicted terrorist Aafia Siddiqui, aka "Lady Al Qaeda," a Jew-hater who refused a Jewish defense attorney and demanded no Zionists be allowed on the jury for her trial.

• CAIR honored Ilhan Omar, a leading Israel-hater in Congress, with its “American Muslim Public Servant of 2021” award.

• CAIR’s San Francisco chapter head, Zahra Billoo, calls the Jewish state “apartheid Israel.” She declared, “I am not going to legitimize a country that I don't believe has a right to exist.”

• CAIR’s co-founder and executive director called Tel Aviv “occupied,” adding, “inshallah [God willing], it will be free later." But to say that is to call for Israel’s elimination as a Jewish state—a goal fervently held by both Iran and Hamas.

And yet CAIR, which has also called for cutting all U.S. aid to Israel, enjoys close ties and public praise from many in Congress. Its glowing public image, burnished by effusive press treatment and the endorsements of an astounding number of members of Congress, is completely at odds with reality.

CAIR is, in fact, a Hamas-linked, anti-Israel, antisemitic group that works endlessly to cut U.S. support for the Jewish state. As CAIR’s co-founder and executive director, Nihad Awad, has said, “CAIR fights Zionism on [a] daily basis.”

And that is why CIDI is calling on friends of Israel like you to send faxes and sign our “CUT TIES WITH CAIR” petition to congressional leaders, demanding that Congress repudiate this dangerous, antisemitic, Israel-hating organization that seeks to eliminate the Jewish state.

CAIR’s clout in Congress is an ominous signal that reveals why the work of CIDI is so needed now. With your help, we’re in Washington working on Israel’s behalf and mobilizing public support for the Jewish state across America.
