More UN Corruption That Hurts Israel

Palestinians leaders were incensed at President Donald Trump last year after he slashed U.S. taxpayer funding to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). That's the UN group charged with solving the so-called Palestinian refugee crisis.

Palestinian Authority chief negotiator Saeb Erekat predicted cuts to UNRWA’s budget would “starve Palestinian children in refugee camps.” That didn’t happen.

Instead, Trump acted for good reason—and at the urging of friends of Israel like you. Together, we joined in calling on the President to stop all U.S. funding to UNRWA.

With your help and financial support, we issued this call because UNRWA is a colossal failure.

The UN charged it in 1949 with helping Palestinian refugees find new homes and futures. That was supposed to be a short-term task--maybe three years at the most. But 70 years later, UNRWA is a sprawling welfare agency which has turned 750,000 original refugees into five million.

+  +  UNRWA has one great "success"—teaching hatred for Jews

Meanwhile, UNRWA’s one great “success” is teaching Jew-hatred, the fabricated “right of return,” and jihad to more than 500,000 Palestinian students in UNRWA schools.

And this week we received news showing just how wise President Trump was to stop dumping taxpayer dollars into the bureaucratic black hole known as UNRWA. News surfaced that UNRWA is totally corrupt, based on serious allegations in a leaked internal report.

The report lists “credible and corroborated” allegations of “sexual misconduct, nepotism, retaliation, discrimination and other abuses of authority, for personal gain, to suppress legitimate dissent, and to otherwise achieve their personal objectives.”

+  +  Alleged corruption at the top

The charges go to the very top of the organization. UNRWA’s Commissioner--General Pierre Krahenbuhl--is alleged, the Times of Israel reports,

“...to have been romantically involved with a colleague who was appointed in 2015 to a newly created role of senior adviser to the commissioner-general after an ‘extreme fast-track’ process, the report says. This enabled her to join him on business class flights across the globe, the report claims.”

This is what you and I get for the $7 billion in U.S. aid sent since 1949 to UNRWA—a bloated, corrupt and anti-Israel organization. So far, Switzerland and Denmark have also frozen their support for UNRWA.

And Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Dannon, sent this tweet:

“The allegations of corruption at the highest levels of UNRWA is revealing, if not surprising. For decades, the organization and its leadership have sold lies to perpetuate the Palestinians’ refugee status. UNRWA is nothing more than an anti-Israel org. Time to hold it accountable.”

+  +  Progress, but your help needed to do more

Together, you and I have witnessed extraordinary progress in the past two years, as we have petitioned and pressed for pro-Israel change in Washington. Not only has President Trump canceled 70 years of misspent aid to UNRWA, but with help from friends like you we have seen victories like these . . .

  • President Trump signed into law the “Taylor Force Act,” which prohibits aid to the Palestinian Authority unless it stops funding terrorists who attack Israel.

  • President Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved the U.S. embassy to the Holy City.

  • The Trump administration slashed all U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority, which refuses to stop lavishing cash on terrorists who kill and maim Israelis.

  • America withdrew from the wretched Iran nuclear deal and slapped tough sanctions on the rogue terror state.

  • The Trump administration kicked the PLO out of Washington, DC.

+  +  Your voice is being heard...

...but to keep our voice strong--and to do even more to bless and defend Israel—I'm asking for your financial help today.

With your support, our staff in Washington keeps a sharp eye on Congress, watching for attacks on Israel and to support pro-Israel bills. Our media campaigns help mobilize thousands of pro-Israel Americans.

And we’re equipping the next generation to love and bless Israel through Covenant Journey, our innovative trips to Israel for young Christian leaders.

But none of this would be possible without friends like you. That’s why I’m asking for your support.

And your generosity right now will make a real difference.

Together, we’ve seen great pro-Israel progress in the past two years. But hatred for Israel and the Jewish people is growing across the world and here in America, even on Capitol Hill.

You’ve heard Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the first two female Muslims in Congress, lash out at “racist” Israel, with its “apartheid” regime.

Our voice needs to be strong in response!

Will you help make that happen?

Your much-needed gift of any amount--$15, $30, $50 or more—will go right to work to defend the Jewish state and the Jewish people.

Today is the last day of the month of July and we’re behind budget. Your gift will help close the gap and be used to bless and defend Israel. Please be as generous as you can!

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind support—but most of all, thank you for your heart for God’s chosen people!

Together for Israel,

Mat Staver
Chairman

P.S. Israel needs defenders like you. And your gift now strengthens everything CIDI does to stand with and support Israel.
