New York Times: anti-Semitic "cesspool"

I share a shocking update below on surging anti-Semitism inside America--a safe haven for Jewish people since our founding. But no more. It shows why your voice and mine are so urgently needed today in defense of the Jewish people and the state of Israel.

And because April ends today and CIDI is behind on budget, I'm asking you to consider a generous gift now. Your support will help us close the gap and empower our fight for Israel. Thank you!

See below for disturbing news showing why you and I must speak out loud and clear on behalf of our Jewish brothers and sisters --Mat.

Last week, America's "paper of record," the New York Times, published a rank anti-Semitic cartoon.

It portrays a blind Donald Trump wearing a skullcap and being led, blue leash in hand, by his "guide dog" - a Dachshund-like canine with the face of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And just to make things as clear as possible, a Star of David hangs from the guide dog's collar.

Jewish and Israeli leaders are outraged - as am I - at this nasty anti-Semitic trope which ran in the Times international edition. The cartoon plays on the insidious sterotype that Jews control the world.

  • Yesterday, Israeli ambassador Ron Dermer excoriated the Times, calling it "a cesspool of hostility towards Israel."
  • The Times' own op-ed columnist, Bret Stephens, blasted his newspaper, saying the cartoon, "might have been published in the pages of Der Stürmer"--a rapidly anti-Semitic Nazi-era German tabloid.
  • And vice president Mike Pence declared on Twitter: "We stand with Israel and we condemn antisemitism in ALL its forms, including @nytimes political cartoons."

The scurrilous New York Times cartoon appeared at a time of rising anti-Semitism in America. Just days after the Times cartoon, a gunman spewing anti-Semitic hate attacked a San Diego area synagogue. The rifle assault last Saturday killed one and injured three--and many more might have perished but for divine protection and human heroism.

And to put an exclamation point on all this, the Anti-Defamation League announced today that U.S. Jews experienced "near-historic levels of anti-Semitism" in 2018.

Anti-Semitism is rising, and it's critical that you and I stand strong in defense of Israel and the Jewish people. That's the mission of Christians in Defense of Israel. And it's never been more needed.

Will you help CIDI fight and mobilize more Americans in defense of the Jewish people?

Your support today is vital as we seek to close the gap on a difficult budget shortfall this month.

But with your help, our joint pro-Israel voice will sound forth loud and clear - especially on Capitol Hill where anti-Semitism is taking root inside the Democratic Party.

Incredibly, House Democrats are coddling open anti-Semites. They have made only the most muted criticism of the repeated attacks on Israel and the vile anti-Semitic smears made by Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar.

And Tlaib and Omar - the first two Muslim women in Congress - are not alone.

Instead, they embody a "generational shift" inside the Democratic party, as liberal Jewish writer Peter Beinart points out. "Every year," he says "Democrats in Washington move closer to Tlaib's view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and further from "pro-Israel Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

But I think it's worse than that. I agree with conservative Jewish writer Ben Shapiro who contends that "Democrats have soured on Israel and warmed to anti-Semitism."

It's staggering. The party of Harry Truman - the President who recognized Israel's statehood in 1948-is now becoming the party of Tlaib and Omar!

That's why you and I must do everything in our power to expose and root out anti-Semitism in America. But to do that, I need your help today.

Please give generously now to help us stand with Israel and defend the Jewish people.

Your gift now makes a real difference for Israel and the Jewish people!

Thank you for being a friend of Zion!

Mat Staver
Chairman

P.S. Again, thank you for standing with CIDI as we stand in defense of Israel and the Jewish people. Your gift strengthens everything we do and helps us make our combined voice that much louder.
