Pelosi to Omar: Enough Already!
Her action came 19 days after House Republican Lee Zeldin introduced a resolution condemning anti-Semitism—a measure which Pelosi is still blocking as I write.
It took a vile anti-Semitic tweet but Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally denounced anti-Semitism within her own party today.

+ + + Omar finally triggers Democrats to act
Pelosi acted after ignoring for weeks a drumbeat of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel remarks and actions by two freshmen Muslim Democrats, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar.
But in a poisonous tweet yesterday, Rep. Omar finally triggered Democrats, including Pelosi, to act.
In her tweet, Omar charged the American support for Israel is bought and paid for by Jewish money.
"It's all about the Benjamins, baby," Omar explained, using a slang term for $100 bills, which bear the face of Benjamin Franklin.
When someone asked the Minnesota congresswoman who she thinks pays American politicians to support Israel, Omar tweeted back: "AIPAC!"--a reference to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
But AIPAC doesn't fund campaigns or endorse candidates.
++ Outrage
Jewish groups expressed outrage at Omar's tweet. The American Jewish Committee blasted her remark, which the AJC called "demonstrably false and stunningly anti-Semitic."
Nikki Haley, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN, where anti-Semitism is rampant, said Omar's remarks "CANNOT be tolerated in our own Congress by anyone of either party. . . . No excuses."
And prominent Democrat, Dan Shapiro, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Israel under President Obama, issued a sharp condemnation of what he called Omar's "vile anti-Semitic trope." Shapiro said Omar's words "need to be condemned by all in our party."
Finally, hours after Omar’s Sunday tweet, Pelosi ended weeks of looking the other way and denounced Omar.
“Congresswoman Omar’s use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive,” said Pelosi in a joint statement with other Democratic House leaders. “We condemn these remarks and we call upon Congresswoman Omar to immediately apologize for these hurtful comments.“
In response, Omar offer her mea culpa, declaring, “I unequivocally apologize.”
That’s great, but it’s just a first step. Now Speaker Pelosi needs to put the full House on record by bringing Zeldin’s resolution condemning anti-Semitism to a vote—something Pelosi has, so far, refused to do.
That's why I'm asking you to join me now in sending a Demand Letter to Speaker Pelosi, calling on her to bring H. Res. 72 to a House vote immediately.

That's why you and I must speak out loudly. I urge you to do so right away. We'll be submitting the Demand Letter to Speaker Pelosi in just a few days, so I ask you to sign it now.
